Dr. Shane Perrine grew up in West Virginia, earned his Ph.D. from Northeast Ohio Medical University, and became a faculty member at Wayne State in 2007. Since then, he has received several national grants based on his lab's neuropsychopharmacology research. Dr. Perrine's productive lab uses rodents to explore many projects spanning interests in drug seeking and drug taking with self-administration, neuronal ensemble discovery in drug taking, drug interactions, associative learning through fear conditioning, stress and anxiety models, sex differences in behavioral measures, histone deacetylases (HDACs), long-term memory

When not in the lab, Dr. Perrine likes trying to be his kids' favorite parent (their mom is awesome).

Dr. Srini Kallakuri's research mainly focuses on traumatic brain injury (TBI) and its impacts on various experiences.

Ali Gheidi, Ph.D. - Postdoctoral Fellow

hf6221[at]wayne.edu

Ali is a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences. Originally from Toronto, he received his B.A. from York University in the Psychology department and his Ph.D. from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Canada. Ali's current work in the lab focuses on the contribution of neuronal ensembles and norepinephrine to cocaine reinstatement. When he is not in the lab, he likes to play guitar.

Previous education: York University (B.A.), Wilfrid Laurier University (M.Sc.), Wilfrid Laurier University (Ph.D.), Memorial University of Newfoundland (Postdoctoral Fellow), University of Michigan (Postdoctoral Fellow)

Cameron Davidson, Ph.D. - Postdoctoral Fellow

fw4948[at]wayne.edu

Born in New York, and raised in Indiana, he received a Bachelor's in psychological science and a  Master's of social and cognitive processing psychology from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He just completed an additional Master's degree as well as his Doctorate at Wayne State University focusing on exposure to abuse and environmental exposure to volatile organic compounds. He is currently working as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Perrine lab with a focus on the interaction between opioids and cocaine looking at the influence on inhibition and neuronal ensembles, models, and protective compounds related to PTSD, and sex differences related to norepinephrine depletion on learning and memory. When he is not in the lab, he is spending time with his wife, his new baby (Quintin), two cats (Willow and Magneto), and a dog (Lila). He also enjoys gardening, knitting, origami, reading fiction books, and playing poker.

Previous education: Ball State University (B.S., M.S.), Wayne State University (Ph.D.)

Jessica Lee - Medical Student

jessica.lee5[at]med.wayne.edu

Jessica is a second-year medical student at Wayne State. Originally from Traverse City, MI, she received a degree in Biology from The University of Michigan. Jessica's focus in the Perrine Lab is the effect of the estrous cycle on sex differences in drug addiction. She has helped with estrous characterizations in several projects. Outside of medical school and research, Jessica enjoys cooking plant-based meals, spending time outside, and volunteering at the Detroit Animal Shelter.

Previous education: The University of Michigan (B.S.)

Serena Simpson - Medical Student

serena.simpson[at]med.wayne.edu

Serena graduated from Michigan State University with a B.S in Neuroscience and a minor in bioethics. Serena is currently a 2nd-year medical student at Wayne State University. During her time at Wayne so far, she has co-founded the student MALTA clinic and the United Nations medical chapter and worked as co-president for the psychiatry interest group and finance/fundraising chair for the LGBT+ PiM organization. Serena is currently working on a project concerning the effects of DSP-4 on spatial learning. She is also involved in multiple sclerosis clinical research outside of the Perrine lab. In her free time, Serena likes to spend time with her fiancé and their two cats, Ellie & Cher. She also enjoys learning new songs on guitar, watching kdramas, and hanging out with friends.

Previous education: Michigan State University (B.S.)

Alixandria Trombley - Graduate Student

ga6821[at]wayne.edu

Alixandria is a second-year graduate student in the Translational Neuroscience Program, with a B.S. in Psychology from WSU. She uses a rat model to investigate the roles of epigenetics and neuronal ensembles in relapse to cocaine seeking. Outside of the lab, Alixandria's favorite thing to do is play soccer.

Majd Yahya - Undergraduate Research Assistant

gv7575[at]wayne.edu

Majd is an undergraduate student majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Biological Sciences. Within the laboratory, he works closely with Postdoctoral fellow Dr. Cameron J. Davidson exploring the cognitive impact of illicit and pharmaceutical opioids and opioid withdrawal using a preclinical model of chronic escalating exposure paradigm. Outside of the laboratory, Majd enjoys exploring the mountain bike trails throughout Michigan's lower peninsula.
